Why this page exists

We say our guides are built on real purchase data. That’s a factual claim, and factual claims deserve an explanation. This page explains what our data is, how we use it, and — just as importantly — what we never do with it.

Where our data comes from

Our team has spent years working with eyewear e-commerce data. Over that time, we’ve accumulated a large dataset of aggregated purchase records from online eyewear retail — millions of orders placed by shoppers across all 50 U.S. states.

We deliberately do not name specific stores, partners, or platforms. What matters for our readers is not where the data came from, but that it is real, large, and current — and that we use it responsibly.

What the data looks like when we use it

We work only with aggregated, anonymized statistics. That means:

When you read a sentence like “first-time buyers tend to hesitate before their first purchase,” it comes from those aggregate patterns — not from watching any one person.

How data shapes our guides

Data informs our editorial decisions in four concrete ways:

  1. Who we write for — the shopper profiles in our guides (budget-conscious students, screen-heavy professionals, style-driven upgraders) come from real segments in purchase data, not from marketing personas.
  2. What we compare — we prioritize the questions real buyers actually struggle with: price transparency, return policies, lens options, and fit.
  3. How we frame prices — price ranges in our articles reflect what typical orders actually cost, not the lowest advertised number.
  4. What we warn about — common friction points in our guides (wrong frame sizes, return-policy fine print, PD confusion) come from patterns in real order outcomes.

What we never do

Three hard lines, non-negotiable:

  1. We never sell or share personal information. No names, no emails, no addresses, no individual purchase histories — to anyone, for any price.
  2. We never make health claims. We don’t give medical advice, we don’t interpret your prescription, and we don’t claim any product treats or protects your eyes. Those questions belong with your eye doctor.
  3. We never quote numbers we can’t stand behind. When a statistic comes from our dataset, we say so. When it comes from public industry research, we say that too.

How we make money

Some of our links are affiliate links. If you buy through them, we earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Here’s the key point: our editorial judgments are made first, and affiliate relationships are attached second. Retailers cannot pay to be recommended, ranked, or reviewed more favorably.
